A new community croquet group for Waterford

South East Community Croquet is bringing the friendly, sociable game of croquet to Ireland's beautiful south-east coast. Our aim is simple: to promote croquet and make the game accessible to all. We're up and running in three lovely waterside villages in Co. Waterford — Dunmore East, Passage East and Cheekpoint — where neighbours of every ability can meet, play and have a bit of fun on the lawn.

Brand new to the game or a returning player, there's a place for you here. It's free, healthy, sociable and fun — and no experience or equipment is needed. Just turn up.

All abilities welcome

One of the few games where anyone can compete as an equal — skill and tactics beat brute strength every time.

Over 18s only

Sessions are for adults for now — we're expanding to include children in the future.

Friendly & social

It's as much about the chat and the company as the game. Come for the croquet, stay for the craic.

Did you know?

Three surprising facts about croquet

There's a lot more to this game than you might think — and it's closer to home than you'd expect.

1

It's Irish, not English!

The modern game of croquet was developed in Ireland and played here for at least 20 years before it ever reached England.

2

It's not posh!

Croquet was originally developed by French peasants in the 14th century. They fashioned hoops from willow and used a shepherd's crook as a mallet.

3

A 100-year local legacy

Dunmore East croquet lawn was built in 1880. In 1924, Lord Waterford signed over Dunmore East Park to a trust, specifying the grounds are solely used for croquet and tennis.
